When it comes to aviation, UK-based digital aviators skybook know their stuff. With over 30 years of aviation software innovation backing them, skybook comes with a history steeped in pioneering technology and evolutionary thinking. So we were very excited when they approached us to design and develop a brand new CMS website allowing them to communicate effectively to their global audience.
The first thing to consider when developing the site was, how could we translate all of their rich and innovative history into something fresh and modern, that would still reflect their brand and speak to their audience? The answer: tell their story.
We’re very keen advocates of storytelling in website design so we wanted to actively communicate the vibrant history of skybook to accentuate their message and enhance the user experience of navigating the site. To do this we focused on communicating their background, innovative technologies they’ve developed and the people behind the brand, through the Homepage, About skybook page and the blog.
On top of this, in the complicated realm of aviation software, usability is extremely important. We wanted visitors to the website to have a seamless and enjoyable experience as they journey through the site, so we’ve taken the steps necessary to provide an easy transition through the skybook website; from the point of entry to the point of getting in touch, reading a blog post, or just finding some interesting information. This bundle of usability included non-linear structures to pages such as the Homepage, Modules landing page, Modules pages and the About page.
To further support this positive user experience, we also included videos in our banner imagery for the first time, to instil an interactive and dynamic feel to the site. Engaging users before directing them to the content that skybook want them to see.
The end result: a content managed website that communicates something fresh to the aviation industry – a brand fuelled by people and a positive user experience, reflecting the very values that make up the skybook brand.
